As you drive around Birmingham, you may periodically see 4 foot by 4 foot signs that mention the Land Bank.

The text on the signs read as follows:

“THIS PROPERTY HAS BEEN CONVEYED TO THE BIRMINGHAM LAND BANK AUTHORITY AND IS SUBJECT TO A QUIET TITLE ACTION. PERSONS WITH INFORMATION REGARDING THE PRIOR OWNERSHIP OF OR INTEREST IN THE PROPERTY ARE REQUESTED TO CONTACT THE LAND BANK AUTHORITY AT 205.254.2309. THE BIRMINGHAM LAND BANK AUTHORITY IS LOCATED AT: 710 N 20TH STREET, BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA 35203”

Each property that we acquire must go through the quiet title process. Near the end of that process, Alabama state law requires that we post these signs on properties before they go to court.

If you know of someone that owns or is an heir of the owner of a property where a sign has been erected, please alert them and have them call the number on the sign.

Long story short, when you see this sign on a piece of property, it is likely no longer available for acquisition through our program because someone else has entered into contract to purchase and develop it.

Our three person staff has been responsible for over one hundred signs being placed throughout the city. As this post is typed, attorneys are working to close and convey these properties to the numerous citizens that have invested in this program and in the City of Birmingham.
